Transfer 3, semana 5
Hey hey hey! How was your week?
This week flew by. I don't really know how it's almost the end of the transfer, but next week ends the transfer and that's absolutely crazy. So much happened this week, but nothing really too interesting. Just the same old, same old.
On Wednesday, we had a small pizza party after our District Council because we hit (surpassed actually) our goal of 70 lessons with a member participating (we had 82!) Our district leader got a pizza from Costco and each of us a drink of our choice (except for one elder who didn't send his choice in who got a Moana sippy cup of juice). It was a fun way to bond from our goals. That night, we went to a fitness class with some members and their friends. It was super intense and we felt the effects for several days after. But so much fun!
The family from Africa that we are teaching has been making slow but steady progress. They think that they need to know everything before they are baptized, but that's just not true! We tried really hard this week to remind them of all of the things that they already know, rather than focusing on what they don't. There is a Swahili speaking branch in Twin Falls, and we were able to have the Elders that speak Swahili come with us to a lesson. We made a lot of progress with them on Friday night because they could have someone ask them questions in their own language.
Saturday, one of our friends fed us dinner! Carrie was so excited about it, and the food was amazing. She was making burgers, so we went to the local grocery store and bought some chips to bring and saw another one of our friends there. He was buying several bags of salad for some unknown reason, and the reason became even more unknown when he gave all of them to us! After dinner and a lesson, Carrie brought out a box with various snacks for us as a little care package. The box also had salads! So now we have nine bags of salad in our fridge. It was very kind of them, but we'll have to distribute them to other missionaries before they go bad.
Monday was a hard day for me. I'm still getting used to my new medicine. For most of the day, I didn't want to do any work, but of course, I had to. The day felt like a drag until the very end of the night. We were able to have a lesson with our friend Danny. We hadn't been able to meet with him for a while because of his new work schedule, but we met with him yesterday. We were talking about faith and baptism, and he agreed to be baptized at the end of the month! We're so excited for him! And one of the members of the YSA ward has become friends with him and will be able to do the baptism. We're so grateful for both of them.
Today, we had a big Zone Pday. We played kickball (I watched from the side and offered people water). Unfortunately, one of the elders broke his toe! He and his companion had to leave early to go to the hospital, oops. Afterwards, we had ice cream at the mission office and were able to spend time together.
Faith is so important in our lives. In Alma 32:21 it says, "And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." We've really tried to emphasize this principle to Dana and Jim (our friends from Africa) and it really rings true to me too. We don't have to know everything to have faith.
Remember those fluffy kittens from a few weeks ago? The ones that I cuddled and then had an unfortunate ending? Turns out that they didn't die like we thought! They just went for a small field trip and came back a few days later. A happy ending!
That's all for this week! I love you all and will email again soon!
