Transfer 2, semana 3

Holy Cow! It's already halfway through the transfer!

So, the trouble with moving into a missionary apartment that previously housed elders, is that when we moved in, there was stuff that was important that we thought was trash and threw away. That being said, we accidentally threw away the board that goes in the window above the AC unit. So we spent most of the week sleeping with the windows open and the screens jerryrigged to fit in the window (one of them had to be taped in. Scotch tape.) but then last night we finally had a new board and the AC installed and it was glorious. I love modern technology.

One of the apps we use as missionaries is called AreaBook. It's where we track lessons and plan our days. On Thursday, however, there was a global outage of AreaBook. Which meant that missionaries all over the world were unable to access their plans. I was affected by the outage, and couldn't see any of our plans, but thankfully Hermana Messick was able to access it.

Friday night, one of the Elders' investigators (who will be baptized as soon as they figure out a different living situation) had a baby shower. The family went all out! The only thing though, was that they didn't have any games, so everyone just kind of sat around on their phones. And they planned it kind of late so not very many people were able to come. We were able to go for a little while after English class.

Sara got baptized on Saturday! Hermana Messick was wrangled into giving a talk, and I sang a song as a special musical number. It was so wonderful to see Sara make this decision in her life, especially because she's just a teenager! Her dad also came and he isn't overly interested in our message, but we know that he'll see the changes in his wife and daughter and be more interested one day. At the end, he even said that one day he might be the one who gets baptized! Which we were super excited about! He came to church on Sunday too and said the same thing again.

Sunday, we were in Ward Council and I was talking about one of our friends who was coming to church that day. One of the members in the ward council doesn't speak Spanish and the whole meeting is in Spanish, so someone else was translating. I tried to say that he couldn't come because his car was broken (carro roto) but what they heard when translating was perro roto (broken dog is a direct translation). So the man translating said, "and he can't come to church because his dog is handicapped...?" and at that point everyone burst out laughing. So, definitely not the worst thing that could have happened with my Spanish.

Monday, we had exchanges! We swapped companions with another companionship and I changed areas for the day. I went to an English area and it was so different in the way they do missionary work. We met with a lady who was 101! She told us about being in the Air Force in WW2 and working on the propellers of B17s. Which made me want to ask a lot of questions because my dad likes airplanes and therefore I like airplanes. The rest of the day was pretty slow, and I was happy to go back to my area with my companion and in the language that I've been learning and learning to love.

Well, that's about it. The song I sang at Sara's baptism is called Where Can I Turn for Peace? And it talks about turning to God when we need peace in our lives. So, when you need peace in your life, turn to God and he will help you.

I love you all! Have a good week!
