Transfer 1, semana 6

Has it really already been six weeks?!

This week was a little slower than past weeks but it was still a great one! A note about last week's email: the podcast by Jared Halverson is called Unshaken Saints. (Thanks Aunt Jen!)

On Wednesday, Hermana Messick got a new-to-her mattress because her old one was causing her a lot of problems. The couple who helped us was very interesting. The husband assumed that I spoke Korean because my last name is Korean and called someone for me to speak to in Korean! It was very strange. I don't speak Korean, by the way. But Hma Messick is sleeping a lot better now so it was worth it.

Also on Wednesday, we had a video call with Kyle. We came into contact with Kyle in a strange way. We were texting someone else that we are teaching, and he always replied but seemed surprised when we would show up and would forget things that we had sent him. Turns out we had the wrong number! But Kyle said that he felt this was a sign from God and that he would like to talk more about religion with us. He doesn't live in our mission, but he also travels a lot so we'll teach him until he settles down a bit. He was able to get a copy of the Book of Mormon at the temple visitors center near his house and says he has lots of questions for us!

Later in the day, we had dinner with several families from the ward and made Baleadas. They were so good! Some of the people we are teaching were able to come too.

On Friday, we got a call from our friend Kero. He told us that his dad had died the night before. Kero hasn't seen his family in person in 20 years, because they live in a different country and the political climate isn't all that great. We were able to go and see him on Monday night and offer what comfort and support we could. I'm so grateful for the Plan of Salvation, and the knowledge that we can be together with our families again after this life.

The crowning event of Saturday was that we got to ride in the big white van that belongs to a family in the ward. The mom went out with us as we invited people to church, and it affirmed my desire to have a camper van (and a YouTube channel). One day.

Sunday was a full day for us, me especially! At church I gave a talk in Spanish. Everyone was very complimentary of my Spanish, and I was grateful for their grace with me probably butchering their language. It definitely wasn't my best talk, I read it directly off the page and didn't have a lot to say. But it was a good experience for me. Sunday night we had a baptism! Lacey was baptized and it was beautiful. I had made the mistake the previous Sunday of sitting behind her and she thought my voice was beautiful so she asked me to sing at her baptism. I sang "Joseph Smith's First Prayer" in Spanish. Lots of people said they enjoyed it so I guess I did a good job!

Transfers are this week, Hermana Beard is leaving us, but Hermana Messick and I are staying in Twin Falls all by our lonesomes.

In 2 Nephi 4, Nephi writes about his struggles with having just lost his father. In verse 21 he says, "[The Lord] hath filled me with his love, even unto the consuming of my flesh." I love this verse. The thought that God loves us so much that we can't even comprehend it. I highly recommend reading this chapter, it has so much hope, especially with a topic that everyone has to deal with at some point.

Please know that you are so loved by so many people. Me included. Thanks for sticking with me this week. I'll write again next week!

PS: We locked our car and house keys in the house and had to crawl in through the window to get them out.
